Joining for the first time
Do I need a badminton partner to join?
No. Most players book solo. We organise mixed games so you naturally play with different people every round, without needing to bring anyone. Show up alone and you’ll know names by the end of the night.
Can beginners join Angel Wings?
Yes. Our sessions are beginner friendly and we deliberately mix the games so newer players are not stuck against advanced ones. If you can serve, you can play. The organiser keeps an eye out and helps if anything feels off.
What level do I need to be?
Any level. We have everyone from first-timers to long-time club players. Our Smart Court Mix rates you over your first few games and matches you fairly from there. There’s no audition, no skills test.
Is this for kids or adults?
Angel Wings sessions are for adults (18+). The community is mostly mid-20s to 40s but everyone over 18 is welcome.
Can I come on my own?
Most people do. You’ll be playing different partners and opponents every round, so by the end of the night you’ll have met a chunk of the room. It’s actively friendlier than turning up with a fixed group.

What to bring
Do I need to bring a badminton racket?
Bring one if you have it. If you don’t, message us before the session and we’ll arrange a spare racket on arrival. Most regular players end up wanting their own, but you don’t need to spend money on your first night.
What should I wear?
Anything sporty and comfortable. Indoor court shoes are important (no marking soles, no street trainers, most halls require non-marking). T-shirt, shorts or leggings, water bottle. That’s it.
Do I need to bring shuttles?
No. We provide match-quality shuttles for every session. They’re included in the session price.
The format
About sessions
How long is a session?
Sessions run 1.5 to 2 hours depending on venue. The exact end time is on each session page when you book.
What is Smart Court Mix?
It’s our way of organising the games. The app pairs and re-pairs players each round so games stay close. You’re never stuck on a one-sided court for the whole night. Beginners aren’t outclassed, advanced players actually get a workout.
Will I be playing people my level?
Mostly, yes. Smart Court Mix balances each round by skill, so the games stay competitive. You might get a harder game or an easier one occasionally, that’s normal social badminton, but the system aims for balanced matches across the night.
Where do you play badminton in Birmingham?
We run sessions at venues across Birmingham. The exact venue and address is shown on each session page before you book.
Bookings
Booking and payment
How do I book a session?
Pick a session on the booking page, fill in your details, pay through Stripe in under a minute. Confirmation email arrives instantly with your booking code and the venue details.
How much does a session cost?
Sessions are usually £10–£12 per player depending on venue. That covers court hire, match shuttles, organised rotation and access to the community. No membership fee, no monthly commitment, no surprise charges.
What payment methods do you accept?
All major cards via Stripe (Visa, Mastercard, American Express). Apple Pay and Google Pay work too, usually the fastest way to book on a phone.
What happens if I cannot make it after booking?
Cancel up to 24 hours before for a full refund. Inside 24 hours we try to fill your spot from the waitlist first, then handle refunds case by case. We’re reasonable about genuine emergencies.
What if a session is fully booked?
Join the waitlist. If someone cancels we email you a claim link with a short window to book and pay. If you don’t claim in time the spot rolls to the next person on the list.
Community
The Angel Wings community
Is Angel Wings a badminton club or a social group?
We’re a social badminton community in Birmingham. More relaxed than a traditional club, more organised than a casual knockabout. You can book pay-as-you-go sessions, play mixed games and meet friendly people without committing to a membership or weekly schedule.
Can I bring a friend?
Yes, friends are welcome. They just need to book their own spot. Pairs are common but not assumed, we’ll still mix the games for both of you so you’ll meet other players too.
How does the leaderboard work?
Win games, earn rating. The leaderboard tracks your rating across the season. It’s optional, completely fine to ignore it and just play. Some players love the friendly competition, some don’t think about it. Both are valid.
